Most of all she was loyal and faithful to her Lord and Savior. Scruggs was a loyal wife, mother, and grandmother. Scruggs was the last surviving member of her immediate family.

Scruggs was pre-deceased by 2 sons, Steve Scruggs, and Randy Scruggs, one daughter-in-law, Louise Scruggs, 2 sons-in-law, David Johnson, and Rusty Tolbert and one great-granddaughter Cadence James. Scruggs had 14 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great granddaughters and many nieces and nephews that loved her very much. She is also survived by a daughter-in-law Dale Scruggs and a very special sister-in-law Starlena Owens. Surviving are here children, Susan Scruggs Johnson, Kathy Scruggs Tolbert and Tim Scruggs (Robin). She was married to the love of her life, the late Pastor Ray Scruggs. Scruggs was born on March 3rd, 1934, in Pickens County to the late Ben and Cora Whitlock Owens. She was a member of Bethany Baptist Church in Travelers Rest, SC She went peacefully into the arms of Jesus, the one she had accepted as her personal Savior on September 12th, 1957.

Hazel Owens Scruggs 89, of Travelers Rest, SC went home to be with her Lord and Savior on May 14th, 2023, surrounded by her loving family. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Travelers Rest Church of God, P.O. Burial was conducted at Cleveland First Baptist Church Cemetery. A funeral service followed the visitation in the church sanctuary beginning at 2:00 p.m.
